About the Event
Waves of Impact is sponsoring a free surf camp for children with special challenges on the beach in Gloucester. All equipment is provided. However, if your child has a wetsuit or life jacket, please bring it.
Space is limited. Each special surfer will need a ticket (free). We will try to accommodate siblings at this camp the best we can, but with limited space we will have to assess the situation on the beach at the event.
Each surfer will be assigned a surf time and will receive more info about the event the week of camp.
If two children in the family are special surfers, please sign up for two tickets. Â
Must be a parent or guardian to register. Also parent or legal guardian must be at the surf camp with their child.
If there is incliment weather, we will regroup Sunday, September 15th. We're really looking forward to seeing you!
Volunteer Opportunities
We're looking for selfless and compassionate volunteers to share this amazing experience with our participants. Â Water awareness and knowing how to surf is a plus, but absolutely not needed to be a part of this program. Â We ask that volunteers are 15 and older, unless accompanied by an adult.
- Water Volunteers: Anyone may sign up to be in the water as a lead surfer, board catcher, pusher, or on the safety team. Volunteers in this category must be diligent and aware of all surfers and their surroundings in the water, as safety is our biggest priority. Our surf teams consist of 1 lead surfer and 2-3 assistants to help push and catch the board and its rider. First time and novice volunteers will be placed on a team with experiencednsurfers. Volunteers who wish to participate on the safety team will be responsible for watching the surfers, and making sure their path remains clear of anyone in the water. Â You may be needed to assist in catching a board from time to time in shallow water.
- Beach Volunteers: This is the perfect area for anyone who wishes to remain dry and      interact with the families on the beach. Roles include registration and check-in, t-shirt distribution and sales, rash guard fitting andnretrieval, medal distribution, lunch and snack preparations, and spending time with our youth on the beach as they await their surf time.
- Photographers: If you have a professional camera and love capturing ear to ear smiles, then this is the place for you! While living in the moment is precious, having lasting memories on film are priceless. We want our families, friends, participants and volunteers to have an opportunity to relive these once in a lifetime events over and over again.
